The Widow Witch

Widow Witch

Barbara Howerska is a local poet and has published two books of poetry, by Half Moon Press; After the raging, 2018 and The Widow Witch and other poems, 2019.

Whilst supporting open mics, Barbara developed the monthly open mic night, Singing and Talking in Tongues, which she co-hosts with the Brick Box team, at the bar in Ivegate, featured on the BBC Radio 4 Out Loud programme in 2019.

She has enjoyed two solo poetry shows at the IIkley Literature Fringe Festival, 2017 and 2019.

Barbara's poetry is urban, with a diversity of themes, reflecting the socio- political realities of heritage and city life. Calling upon eastern European themes of Slavic myth, the Widow Witch is a narrative poem, telling the tale of a boy named Rudi, a wolf called a Volkolak and shape shifting spirits, in an ancient forest.
